Pamela Martin
I attended a lecture with guest speaker, Pamela Martin, a marine/ environmental/ documentary photographer, who graduated from the same course I am currently undertaking. Knowing that she has been in the same shoes as the rest of us budding photographers, and has achieved so much in such short amount of time is quite extraordinary and shines a ray of hope that it is possible to pursue a career that you love if you have the courage to believe in yourself and your work.
Here's some of her advice for student photographers that stood out for me:
- Have clear goals
- Write a vision for your career
- Believe and back yourself
- Enter all the competitions you can - this one was a major influence on her success rise
- Don't do it purely for the money, do what you love
- Research the people that are the best at what you want to do
- Meet people that will support/ help with what you do
